Ward process
1. How to get Nata Pramanit from the ward
In normal use, Nata Pramanit is issued or recommended by the ward/local level after it verifies the applicant's identity and the relationship chain. The process is similar across Nepal, but the exact fee, application format, witness requirement and verification depth can change by municipality, ward and purpose.
- 1
Decide the exact relationship and purpose
Before asking the ward for a certificate, write exactly what you need proved: father-son, mother-daughter, husband-wife, grandparent-grandchild, sibling, legal heir or dependent relationship.
- 2
Confirm the correct ward or local level
Start from the ward where your family/civil record, permanent address or the deceased person's record is maintained. If records are split across wards, ask which ward must recommend first.
- 3
Collect supporting civil records
Prepare citizenship/NID/passport plus birth, marriage, death, migration or family records that connect the relationship chain. Originals reduce argument at the counter.
- 4
Submit application and pay official fee
Use the ward/local body's application format when available. Pay only at the official counter or official channel and keep the receipt.
- 5
Ward verifies records and relationship
The ward may check records, call the applicant/related person, ask for witnesses, or do local inquiry if old documents are missing or the case is for inheritance/foreign use.
- 6
Check every name before leaving
Confirm Nepali spelling, English spelling, citizenship/passport numbers, birth dates, relation wording, purpose and stamp/signature. Small spelling mistakes create big visa or property delays.
- 7
Translate or attest if the destination requires it
For foreign use, follow the destination's rule after the certificate is issued: certified translation, notary, Department of Consular Services attestation, embassy/legalisation or upload copy.
Use cases
2. Where Nata Pramanit is commonly used
Study abroad / NOC support
Useful when a sponsor, guardian, bank or university needs proof that the applicant is related to the person funding or supporting the study.
Visa and dependent application
Embassies or foreign offices may ask for relationship proof between spouse, parent, child, sibling or dependent family member.
Inheritance and legal-heir work
Used as supporting proof, but land, bank, pension or court work may need a separate legal-heir recommendation, death certificate and consent from other heirs.
Bank, pension, insurance or property
Receiving offices may ask for exact relation wording, original certificates, witness verification or additional recommendation from the ward.
Relationship chain
3. Which proof fits which relationship?
| Relationship | Strong supporting proof | Extra caution |
|---|---|---|
| Father / mother / child | Birth registration, citizenship/NID, family record | Name/DOB mismatch can delay the certificate. |
| Husband / wife | Marriage registration, citizenship/passport | Foreign use may require translation and attestation. |
| Grandparent / grandchild | Two-step birth/family record chain | Ward may ask for local inquiry if old records are weak. |
| Sibling | Birth records showing same parent(s), citizenship records | Half-sibling/adoption cases need clearer documents. |
| Heir of deceased person | Death certificate, relationship proof, heir details | May need legal-heir or office-specific recommendation. |
Foreign use
4. Translation, notary and consular attestation
A ward-issued Nepali certificate may not be enough for a foreign university, embassy, employer, bank or immigration office. Many users need an English translation and may also need notary or Department of Consular Services attestation. The destination institution's requirement is the final rule.
- Ask whether the destination wants Nepali original, English translation or both.
- Check whether the translation must be from a notary/authorised translator.
- Confirm if MoFA/Department of Consular Services attestation is needed.
- Make sure English spelling matches passport and visa documents exactly.
- Keep scanned copies private; do not send family certificates to random agents.
Inheritance caution
5. Relationship certificate vs legal-heir proof
This is the mistake that burns people. Nata Pramanit proves a relationship, but inheritance files may need a wider legal-heir package: death registration, list of heirs, consent or no-objection from other heirs, ward recommendation, Malpot/bank format, court document or other office-specific proof.
Fees and timing
6. Charges, timeline and receipt
Tools Pasal should not publish one fake national fee for Nata Pramanit. Local bodies can set service fees and may change application format, revenue ticket, duplicate copy charge or inquiry requirement. Translation, notary and consular attestation are separate costs.
- Simple cases can be quick when documents match; difficult cases can take extra days.
- Pay only at the ward/local body or official channel and keep the receipt.
- Ask about extra fee for English copy, duplicate copy or urgent need if available.
- Do not pay agents who promise “guaranteed” visa/inheritance approval from the certificate.
Avoid rejection
7. Common mistakes in Nata Pramanit
- Requesting a general certificate without stating the purpose.
- Using different English spellings across passport, citizenship and certificate.
- Forgetting birth/marriage/death certificate that proves the relationship chain.
- Applying at the wrong ward when the family record is elsewhere.
- Assuming Nata Pramanit alone is enough for inheritance or land transfer.
- Taking a Nepali-only certificate for foreign use without checking translation/attestation rules.
- Uploading private family documents to unofficial websites, agents or social-media forms.
