CGPA & SGPA Calculator — TU, KU, Pokhara University

Calculate your semester GPA from letter grades and credit hours, and your CGPA across semesters — using each university’s official grading scale, not a generic one.

Semester-based programs under the 2074/75 evaluation rules — BBA, BBM, BIM, BHM, B.Sc. CSIT, BIT, BCA, MBS, MBA and similar. Official scale · reviewed 2026-07-03

  • B- (2.7) is "pass in individual subject"; passing the semester needs minimum Grade B, i.e. CGPA 3.0.
  • The end-of-semester external exam pass mark is 50%.
  • TU annual programs (BBS, 3-year BA, B.Ed …) use percentage divisions, not this scale.

How to use this calculator

Pick your university and level, then choose Semester GPAto enter each course’s credit hours and letter grade from your grade sheet — the SGPA updates as you type. Choose CGPA across semestersand enter each semester’s SGPA with its total credits to get the credit-weighted CGPA that appears on your transcript. For TU semester and KU undergraduate programs, the percentage helper shows which official letter band a mark falls in.

The formulas every Nepali university uses

SGPA = Σ (grade point × course credits) ÷ Σ (course credits)
CGPA = Σ (SGPA × semester credits) ÷ Σ (completed credits)

Worked example (TU semester): three 3-credit courses graded A-, B+ and B give (3.7 + 3.3 + 3.0) × 3 = 30 grade points over 9 credits — SGPA 3.33, which falls in TU’s First Division band. A simple average of SGPAs is not CGPA unless every semester carries identical credits.

“Percentage to GPA” in Nepal — the honest answer

Students searching percentage to GPA Nepal are usually trying to convert an annual-system percentage (BBS, 3-year BA, +2 or older SLC results) into a 4.0-scale GPA for a foreign application. No Nepali authority publishes a universal conversion. TU, KU and PU each map marks to letters with their own bands, and only for their own semester programs. If a foreign university or credential evaluator (WES, IQAS, etc.) needs a GPA, let them convert your transcript with their own method — a self-converted number can misrepresent your result in both directions.

Sources & disclaimer

Scales last reviewed on 2026-07-03. Universities revise evaluation bylaws, and some TU faculties and newer programs use different scales — your program’s own curriculum/handbook and grade sheet are always authoritative. This calculator is a study aid, not an official transcript service.

Frequently asked questions

How is SGPA calculated at TU, KU and PU?

All three universities define SGPA the same way: multiply each course's grade point by its credit hours, add them up, and divide by the total credit hours of that semester. What differs is the letter-grade scale — TU semester programs use a 5-band scale (A to B-, then F), KU undergraduate uses a 10-band scale, and PU publishes 11 undergraduate and 8 graduate grade points.

How do I calculate CGPA from my semester SGPAs?

CGPA is the credit-weighted average of all semesters: multiply each semester's SGPA by that semester's total credits, add them, and divide by total completed credits. A simple average of SGPAs is wrong whenever semesters carry different credit loads.

What CGPA is needed to pass a TU semester?

Under TU's semester evaluation rules, B- (2.7) is a pass in an individual subject, but passing the semester requires minimum Grade B — a CGPA of 3.0. The end-of-semester external exam pass mark is 50%.

What percentage is Grade A at Kathmandu University?

In KU's official undergraduate scheme, A (4.0) is 80% and above of the combined in-semester and end-semester marks, A- (3.7) is 75 to below 80, B+ (3.3) is 70 to below 75, down to D (1.0) at 40 to below 45; below 40 is F.

Is there an official formula to convert percentage to GPA in Nepal?

No. There is no universal, officially published percentage-to-GPA conversion in Nepal. Each university maps percentages to letter grades using its own published bands (where it publishes them at all), and those letters carry the grade points. For foreign applications, use the credential evaluator's own method (such as WES) rather than a self-converted number.

Does this calculator work for TU annual programs like BBS or 3-year BA?

No. TU annual programs are marked in percentages with divisions (distinction, first, second, third), not letter grades and CGPA. This calculator covers semester-system programs; an annual-division helper may be added once the current official thresholds are verified.
