Before an interview or online exam
Run both tests, then check what the preview actually shows: light source in front of you (not a window behind), camera at eye level, and speak at normal volume watching the meter reach the middle. Testing here avoids discovering a dead mic inside the meeting app where permission prompts are easy to mis-click.
Frequently asked questions
Is my camera or microphone recorded?
No. The video preview and audio level meter run entirely in your browser — nothing is recorded, stored or transmitted. The 'Stop all tests' button releases both devices immediately.
Why does my camera show a black screen?
Usually another app (Zoom, Teams, OBS) is holding the camera — close it and retry. On laptops also check the physical privacy shutter and, on Windows, Settings → Privacy → Camera.
Why is my preview mirrored?
Previews are mirrored on purpose so moving feels natural, like a mirror. Other people in a call see you un-mirrored — text on your t-shirt looks correct to them.
The mic bar doesn't move — what should I check?
Confirm the right microphone is selected in your OS sound settings, raise the input volume, and check the browser's site permission. On desktop, also check whether a hardware mute key (often F4 or a light on the mic) is active.
Why does the browser ask for permission?
Browsers require explicit permission for camera/mic access per site — that's the security model working. This page only asks when you press a start button, never on load.
