How to use this finder
Type your district in English (Kathmandu, Kaski), your local level in Nepali (पोखरा), or a code prefix — or simply tap your district to list every local level in it. Each row shows the 5-digit local-level code and the 7-digit ward code range. Use the 5-digit code in forms; add your ward number when a full 7-digit code is asked for.
Nepal’s new federal postal codes, explained
In 2025 (2082 BS), Nepal Post replaced the 1991 district-based codes with a federal structure. The 5-digit code reads province → district → local level: Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s 30608 means Bagmati (3), district 06, local level 08. A two-digit ward number completes the 7-digit ward code, so Kathmandu-16 is 3060816. Old codes such as 44600 (Kathmandu) and 33700 (Pokhara) still float around the internet — they belong to the retired system, though most foreign address databases still accept them during the transition.
Sources & disclaimer
All 753 codes come from the official Department of Postal Services (GPO) postal code list — 2082 BS (2025) federal postal code list, extracted and reviewed on 2026-07-03. If Nepal Post revises a local level’s code, the official page prevails.
FAQs
What is the postal code (ZIP code) of Kathmandu?
Under Nepal's new federal postal code system, Kathmandu Metropolitan City is 30608, with ward-level codes 3060801 to 3060832. The old code 44600 comes from the 1991 system that Nepal Post replaced in 2025 — many websites still list it, and most foreign forms will still accept it.
What is the postal code of Pokhara?
Pokhara Metropolitan City is 40504 under the new system (ward codes 4050401–4050433). The widely quoted 33700 is the old 1991-system code.
What ZIP code should I enter in a foreign form?
Use the 5-digit code of your local level (municipality or rural municipality) from this finder — that is Nepal Post's current official code. If a form rejects it or specifically asks for the older code, the legacy codes such as 44600 (Kathmandu) are still commonly accepted since most databases haven't updated yet.
How does Nepal's new postal code system work?
Each local level gets a 5-digit code: the first digit is the province (1 Koshi … 7 Sudurpashchim), the next two identify the district, and the last two the local level. Adding a 2-digit ward number makes the 7-digit ward code — for example Kathmandu-16 is 3060816.
Does Nepal use ZIP codes or PIN codes?
Both terms mean the same thing here: Nepal Post officially calls them postal codes. "ZIP code" is the US term and "PIN code" the Indian term — enter your Nepali postal code in whichever field a form shows.
