Overseas mission fees and payment methods vary by mission. At Nepal enrolment centres, payment may be arranged through a designated bank, online/digital payment or cash receipt according to that office. Confirm the selected centre’s instruction before paying.

3. Select the correct application type

The portal offers first issuance, renewal, lost/stolen replacement and damaged replacement. This choice is not cosmetic: it changes previous-passport fields, uploads and charges.

4. Prepare documents before opening the form

Your preparation

Loading your checklist…

Only checklist ticks are saved on this device. Tools Pasal never asks for or stores your citizenship, NIN, passport, appointment, payment or reference numbers.

You do not need to bring a passport-size photograph. The official photo, fingerprints and other biometrics are captured at live enrolment.

5. Fill the online ePassport form

Open the official Nepal ePassport application portal. Never send citizenship, NIN, passport or captcha details to an unofficial form-filling website.

Click each section below. It follows the real portal journey and highlights mistakes that can invalidate the form or create a paid reapplication later.

The application type and page count control later fields, documents and fees. Official instructions warn that choosing the wrong type or pages can make the form unusable.

First Issuance / पहिलो पटकIf applicable

Choose this only when you have never held a passport, or for the special handwritten-passport case described by the Department.

Renewal / नवीकरणIf applicable

Choose renewal when replacing an existing passport because of expiry or another permitted renewal reason. You will need the previous passport details and original.

The Department says a valid machine-readable passport normally does not need replacement while more than one year of validity remains, except allowed cases such as loss or damage.
Replacement — Lost/StolenIf applicable

Choose this when the latest passport was lost or stolen. Never travel with a passport already reported lost, even if it is later recovered.

Replacement — DamagedIf applicable

Choose this when the passport is torn, altered, unreadable or otherwise unusable. Take the damaged original with you.

Ordinary 34 PagesRequired

Suitable for most applicants. It has the same passport validity as the 66-page version and costs less.

Ordinary 66 PagesRequired

Choose this when frequent travel may use many visa pages. It does not provide longer validity or faster processing.

6. Make document uploads readable and under 300 KB

The official instruction allows JPEG or PNG below 300 KB per file. New applications upload citizenship front/back; renewal, lost and damaged branches also upload the previous passport front/back. Follow every red mandatory upload slot displayed for your specific branch.

Use the Tools Pasal Image Compressor to reduce file size privately in your browser. Check that names, numbers, stamps and dates remain readable after compression.

7. What happens at the passport office

1Form and original verificationOfficer checks the barcode form and identity documents.
2Fee and live enrolmentPayment proof, official photo, fingerprints and signature are completed.
3Final confirmationCheck every printed detail before confirming and signing.

8. Minor and overseas applications

Applicant under 16

NIN is not mandatory. Use the original minor identity card. A first application at the Department may require a photo-bearing authenticity verification from the issuing District/Area Administration Office, plus parents’ citizenship certificates and marriage registration.

Application through a Nepali mission abroad

NIN is not mandatory. Choose the relevant overseas appointment path and follow the mission’s own document, payment and collection instructions because fees and local arrangements vary by country.

9. Status and passport collection

Keep the application reference number. Check through the official Department of Passports status service or the official Nepal ePassport app. Wait for the passport-ready message before collection.

Take the application form, citizenship, payment receipt and previous passport where applicable. Adult applicants normally collect personally; for a minor, a parent may collect according to the office’s rules.

Common mistakes that cause rejection, delay or another payment

  • Choosing renewal for a first passport, or hiding a previous passport.
  • Selecting 66 pages while intending to pay the 34-page fee.
  • Putting the full name in Given Name and leaving Surname incorrect.
  • Adding Mr., Ms., Dr., punctuation or unsupported characters to names.
  • Using the citizenship issuing district as Place of Birth.
  • Typing hyphens or slashes in the citizenship-number field.
  • Using a duplicate-citizenship date/place instead of the original issuance details.
  • Entering yourself as the emergency contact.
  • Uploading blurred, cropped or over-compressed documents.
  • Confirming live enrolment without checking every printed detail.
