How to use this calculator
Pick whether your date of birth is in Nepali (BS) or English (AD) and enter it. By default your age is shown as of today; choose Pick a date to calculate your age on any other day. You also get your total age in months, weeks and days, and a countdown to your next birthday.
Why age matters in Nepal
Most Nepalis have their date of birth recorded in Bikram Sambat on their citizenship and school documents, so working out an exact age usually starts from a BS date. Age limits decide many things: a citizenship certificate is issued at 16, voting is from 18, and Lok Sewa Aayog (Public Service Commission) posts have upper age limits — generally 35 for men and 40 for women, and up to 45 for some senior posts. Because eligibility is judged as of a specific date, such as an application deadline, rather than today, being able to calculate your age on any chosen day matters. Government service retirement is generally between 58 and 60.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my age from a Nepali (BS) date of birth?
Select 'Nepali (BS)' for the date of birth, choose your Bikram Sambat year, month and day, and your exact age in years, months and days appears instantly. You can also switch to 'English (AD)' if you know your Gregorian birthday.
Can I find my age on a specific past or future date?
Yes. Under 'Calculate age as of', choose 'Pick a date' and select any date — useful for checking age eligibility on a deadline (for example, a Lok Sewa application date).
How is the exact age calculated?
The date of birth and the reference date are both converted to the Gregorian calendar and the difference is computed in completed years, months and days. Age is the same regardless of which calendar you use, so the result is identical whether you enter BS or AD.
What date range is supported?
Bikram Sambat dates from 1970 to 2090 BS (roughly 1913 to 2034 AD) are supported, which covers all common dates of birth.
